Wind power generates jobs across Texas
For years, Trinity Industries welded together steel rail cars and tanks at its Fort Worth facility on 28th Street. The plant is still buzzing, but it has been converted to produce a different product: huge towers, up to 250 feet tall and 14 feet in diameter and weighing more than 100 tons, to support the big wind turbines sprouting up across West Texas and other parts of the country.
Gulf Coast Project Ready
Iberdrola Renewables has completed development of a new wind farm near the Texas Gulf Coast that will supply renewable energy to customers of CPS Energy and the South Texas Energy Cooperative.
Wind Energy in Texas Gets $10 Billion Boost
Texas Governor Rick Perry announced a major public-private initiative this week that could increase wind-generated energy in the Lone Star State by approximately 7,000 megawatts. Eight companies have committed to invest a combined $10 billion-plus in new wind projects -- as long as the state's Public Utility Commission constructs the necessary transmission lines.
Wind Energy Grows by Record in 8,300 MW in 2008
The U.S. wind energy industry shattered all previous records in 2008 by installing 8,358 megawatts (MW) of new generating capacity (enough to serve over 2 million homes), the American Wind Energy Association (AWEA) said today, even as it warned of an uncertain outlook for 2009 due to the continuing financial crisis.
Record year for wind energy: Global wind power market increased by 40.5% in 2005
Continued political efforts can give even stronger impetus for 2006. The global wind energy sector experienced another record year in 2005. According to the figures released today by the Global Wind Energy Council (GWEC), the year saw the installation of 11,531 megawatts (MW), which represents a 40.5% increase in annual additions to the global market, up from 8,207 MW in the previous year. The total value of new generating equipment installed was over €12 billion, or US $14 billion. The total installed wind power capacity now stands at 59,084 MW worldwide, an increase of 24% compared to 2004.
More than 195,000 wind turbines to appear outside homes by 2020
More than 195,000 wind turbines will spring up outside homes across Britain over the next 12 years, according to energy advisers, after the Government pledged to pay people for generating their own electricity.
A "feed-in tariff" will be introduced to ensure any household generating power through renewable power sources like wind, solar or biomass will be paid for the energy they produce, as part of measures to tackle climate change.
